 Last Shot and Confess

March 2023

March theatre

Last Shot –

A famous actor and revered director are filming the Last Shot of their latest picture. The question is, why are they doing this in a village hall? With past misdeeds bought to life, we soon find out why their careers have spun so violently and dangerously out of control.

 Confess –

Martin is a peculiar man, and he wants to hear your confession. He runs a local support group in his village hall so you can share your darkest secrets. However, when two unusual participants turn up confessing things Martin doesn't want to hear, the group becomes a little less supportive.

These two pitch-black comedy thrillers are brought to you by the up and coming Raising Cain Productions (My Other Half), and are written to be performed in either a theatre or village hall. See these two 30-minute plays in one night and fall into their dark and twisting narratives.

The Tide Jetty

June 2019

Eastern Angles Theatre Company’s 2019 Spring Tour Show…with The Tide Jetty by Tony Ramsay

Two brothers, Tucky and Nathan grow up on the banks of Breydon Water alongside tomboy, Eliza. The three of them are inseparable. As they grow older the inevitable happens and both the boys fall for her. But tragedy tears the trio apart and years later it is time to discover the truth of what really happened…

The Tide Jetty is a new and thought-provoking play, exploring what we treasure and how and why we preserve it.  Tony Ramsay’s previous plays include The Anatomist (“A vision of the past pregnant with the present” Time Out) and Bentwater Roads (“an engrossing drama from the numerous pasts lurking around it” The Times).

Brilliance

November 2018

Brilliance.png

Farnham Maltings Theatre Company present a 90 minute theatrical event that celebrates progress and change in a bright new world.
It is at heart a love story.

1948 and 1963.  Everyone is gathering in the village hall

Lightning has struck the hall roof.  Mrs Atkinson has called the repairman – a man who can fix a creaking door, chimneys that smoke.  And in he comes with his daughter, bright blue eyes full of brilliance, like an animal in from the woods.

Long after its arrival in the city, the slow process of rural electrification is starting to illuminate every corner and crevice of village life. As the dark evenings hold us in, 240 volts of alternating current and the humble electric light bulb allow us to gather and sing long into the night.

 Here I Belong

April 2018

HereIBelong Once again with CAE support Pentabus Theatre Company returns to Freckenham with a performance of 'Here I Belong' - a play by Matt Hartley. It’s about communities, relationships and growing old. It is an uplifting night out, with some gentle audience participation if you want too!

It's Elsie's birthday, which is appropriate since it mirrors the 20th anniversary of the opening of the village hall in February (another milestone!). You are invited to celebrate with us, bring your friends, your family or just bring yourself. There will be cake! Elsie has lived here for 60 years. In that time she has seen elections, weddings, wars, people coming, people going. You'll travel through time with her from 1953 to the present day and help Elsie stay where she belongs.

Join us for a sensitive, charming and honest portrayal about life and the right to grow old in your own home. The show is staged in cabaret-seating style and the scenery changes with bunting, flowers, fairy lights and balloons as the audience is taken on a journey through 60 years of village life.

 Salsa Verde

October 2017

Salsa VerdeBadapple dons its Salsa Verde dancing shoes

Badapple Theatre Company is back with a brand new comedy, and this time the dancing shoes are going on! ‘Salsa Verde’, or Green Sauce as they say in Yorkshire, begins touring on 21st September in Marton-cum-Grafton and follows two different generations of characters where a romantic love-triangle seems destined to be repeated down the years. A wartime Bevan Boy and a navy recruit clash at the dance hall, as do another thoroughly modern duo fighting over the instructor at the local village hall Salsa night.
Artistic Director and playwright Kate Bramley notes, “As Badapple’s 20-year anniversary of touring approaches, I wanted to capture the imagination of younger, non-traditional theatregoers! Hopefully the prospect of top-quality dancing, music and comedy all on your doorstep will appeal to anyone of any age who is up for a great local night out.”
Well-known for her plays which blend historical resonance with contemporary issues, Bramley’s ‘Salsa Verde’ deals with the stresses of the modern world, from changes to the rural landscape to immigration and the financial stress of recession, whilst retaining the customary humour and originality of all Badapple shows.
Bramley says, ‘Salsa Verde’ is “all about joy”. Set in late 1999- reflecting a time anticipating the new Millenium when joy was promised, expected and deserved- local villagers are hoping for completion of the troubled Millennium Bridge that will join two rival ex-colliery villages for the first time in a hundred years. Sallie returns from New York to bring dance to her childhood haunts through the Grand Opening Salsa Spectacular. Meanwhile out of work Verde, finds himself embroiled in a Cyrano de Bergerac style love triangle with Sallie, identical to the experience of his Grandad as a wartime collier.
We want our audiences to laugh and be entertained – a night away from divided Brexit Britain- and celebrate the diverse & pro-active communities around them. Salsa’s historical origins are political, of the working people, fusing styles that transcend ethnicity & poverty, and that social power and visual vibrancy makes it a best fit for this piece.”
Badapple Theatre Company is one of the most prolific and original rural touring companies in the UK. Its mission is to take productions to the smallest of rural venues, and in doing so find the best of new theatre in the most unexpected of places. With high production values & multi-arts storytelling this innovative show will, once more, push the boundaries of what can be achieved in rural theatre touring.
‘Salsa Verde’ stars Jack Alexander (from our hit show Eddie and The Gold Tops), alongside actor/dancers Hadley Smith and Alexandra Daszewski with original songs and music by SONY award-winning singer songwriter Jez Lowe, BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards nominee.

Morgan and West's

Spectacular Magic Show

April 2017

Fun for ages 5 to 105.MorganWestCutOut

Time travelling Victorian magic duo Morgan & West unload another boxful of bafflement and impossibility. Witness a mountain of mysterious magic, a hatful of hyper-reality, and of course a truck full of tricks and tea. (Sadly there are no actual mountains or trucks on stage during the show, Mr West simply would not have them.) Mixing brain busting illusion and good old fashioned tom-foolery, Morgan & West present a show for all the family, where magic and silliness abound!
